Coming from a creative and extraordinary background, Kawaguchi grew up in the heart of Hollywood, California. In his youth, he was obsessed with skateboarding and loved going to backyard punk shows. By the age of 7, Kawaguchi was training to become a classical pianist. His father, an avid fan of bossa nova, had a nylon acoustic guitar that he would play regularly. Kawaguchi was 10 when he started noodling on his father’s beloved guitar. At 12, he started a group with friends from Hollywood and competed in a “Battle of the Bands” at the BB King’s Blues Club located in Universal City Walk. He was discovered walking in Hollywood by the Spectrum Global Agency at the age of 19. He was featured in commercials (Subaru, Citizens Watches, Dodge) and being casted in his first feature film, Kawaguchi joined Sag-AFTRA that year. As his childhood friends were becoming professional skateboarders, he immersed himself in Hollywood’s entertainment scene.

Guitar would become his biggest passion during these years. Inspired to shred guitar like Tony Iommi, Shaune Kelley, and Paul Gilbert, Kawaguchi would play guitar for 5 hours a day. His obsession landed him a lead guitarist role in an outstanding world heavy metal band called “Voodoo Kungfu”. Kawaguchi toured nationally throughout China performing on a custom eight-string guitar. In 2015, the band won the Chinese MIDI Award for best live performance.

Growing restless from performing in metal bands, Kawaguchi soon began experimenting with various genres. From forming a pop electronic duo to working with renowned hip hop legends, Kawaguchi continued to play around with various sounds combining his guitar, piano, drums, bass, and vocal skills. He created a new genre he’s named “emo funk.” His solo work is a reflection of his unique musical background and experience that masterfully places his poetic and soulful vocals in the center.
